Starting a job is already a difficult mission that requires a lot of courage; make the decision, have an investment or get potential investors, define a strategy, get everything necessary, find clients, suppliers, and an endless number of situations to resolve throughout the process. Now imagine that your gender is one more variant to overcome, in what seems to be an obstacle course. In Mexico, only two percent of women of working age are entrepreneurs, compared to six percent of men who do so. What is the reason for this difference? It has nothing to do with a lack of capacity or leadership, it is only a reflection of the gender gap that exists in the economic and labor sector, and the lack of equity of opportunities in commercial matters. “Women around the world are not supported enough to make it easy for them to start a business,” says the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor.
On the other hand, according to data from the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit, 99 percent of women who request a loan to invest in their Asia Mobile Number List company pay off their debts in full, showing commitment and responsibility in the face of a new challenge. There is an initiative that seeks to contribute to closing the gender gap in commercial matters and aims to expand the opportunities for women entrepreneurs, so that they can grow and prosper with their businesses, it is WEConnect International. What is WEConnect International? WEConnect International is an organization that facilitates contact between corporations and potential entrepreneurs to integrate them into their supply chain. This is an international initiative present in 18 countries that aims to promote business relationships, contribute to economic growth and raise the profile of women-owned companies, while supporting the strengthening of diversity and inclusion programs of transnational corporate suppliers.
According to Doctor Luz María De la Mora, director of the WEConnect International Program in Mexico, “what this initiative seeks is to be able to give greater opportunities to women to reduce the gap that exists in the market, in the economy and in the business sector, and help women to have the same opportunities as men to develop their companies more quickly.” How does this initiative operate? WEConnect International identifies companies that are at least 51 percent owned, managed and controlled by one or more women, are legally established and are growth-oriented. Once identified, they are trained, registered, certified and linked with potential buyers, so that they have greater opportunities to be part of corporate value chains. WEConnect International certified companies are guaranteed to be run by women who have a vision for growth and a desire to make their business scalable.
